“Coming to this country was one of the biggest challenges I have experienced in my life. I had to face a new culture, language and life style, but at the same time I found a community that received me with open hands and a place full of opportunities for me and my family. Live in a free country, have the opportunity to study and become an engineer as well as create a beautiful family is one of the biggest gifts that I ever had”

Surelys Martinez moved to South Florida from Cuba in March 2009. After studying 4 years at the Istutituto Superior Politecnico Jose Antonio Echeverria, CUJAE to become a Software Development she had the intention to continue her education and start working in that field but life had another surprise for her.

During her first years of Miami Dade College she start working in a construction industry and get involved in the different steps of the project development. Having this experience changed completely her point of view regards to the construction and at the end; she fell in love with this profession. After she discovered her real passion she decided to change her major and start to study Civil Engineering.

Currently Surelys is studying at Florida International University (FIU). She plans to graduate in one year and a half, and has the intention of continue working on the company that opened their door to an immigrant inexperience girl years ago.

Today Surelys is honored to be a United State citizen and be part of this amazing country.
